Something Cool That Xerox Is Doing

Posted: December 10th, 2007 | Filed under: Art, Tips

DSC1672

If you go to this web site, www.letssaythanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can’t pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How amazing it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is free and it only takes a second.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them.

The Faded Yellow Ribbon

Posted: November 23rd, 2007 | Filed under: Poems

Trees

Our soldiers are now overseas fighting in various countries, for various reasons. Some of those reasons many of us do not understand. We love our brave men and women who risk their lives for our freedom everyday. No…Freedom is not free! And, to all of the families who have lost loved ones in the war -that includes all wars, past and present- how difficult it must be to even begin to forgive the foes who have killed their sons or daughters. Some may think one has to be a saint to be capable of such forgiveness. I think so. But sainthood is open to all of us and being able to forgive comes from prayer. Having the strength to forgive comes from God. Having the power to forgive is a showering of God’s grace upon our hearts, and although time may feel like an enemy in the forgiving process… I think that God’s love and patience is eternal, and He will help our grief. May peace replace the grief you may feel in your heart.

The Faded yellow ribbon tied tight around the tree. A tree so large and lovely, 200 years old is she. Who thought she would be holding a faded ribbon tight. Of someones son or daughter, remembered day and night. We see this yellow ribbon and pray that all goes well. Its not my son or daughter, but I feel they are and tell. I tell my friends and family to keep them in their prayers. For God to hold them closely and wash away their fears. We thank our men and women. While these faded ribbons wave. We never will forget. The sacrifice they gave.

Real Beauty Comes From Within

Posted: October 4th, 2007 | Filed under: Media, Videos

Dove-Onslaught

Dove ‘Evolution’ is a riveting, 1:14 time-lapse film of a young woman’s transformation from pretty, but ordinary girl to strikingly beautiful billboard model.

It deconstructs the beauty myth by revealing everything from the impact of lighting through the application of hair and make-up to retouching, to the photoshop-stretching of neck and impossible widening of eyes, ending with the comment, “No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted.”

Its goal was to promote Dove Self-Esteem workshops in Canada and create broader awareness of the Dove Self-Esteem Fund.

This second video is from the same campaign, it is titled “Onslaught”.

Kind Acts In Action : The Loneliest Road

dnews neuroblastoma ride ja

Below is an email sent to HappyNews by one of its readers.

Hello Happy News, I love your site.

I wanted to let you know about a special little girl named Taylor and her dad, who’s biking across the country to help save her life. It would mean a lot if you could help spread the word about Taylor, her Dad, and their cause. Taylor’s story is below, and you can learn more about Taylor, her dad, and the other childeren and dads at www.loneliestroad.org.

Taylor is a vibrant, blue-eyed, funny two-year old girl who loves to dance, loves princesses, and loves playing with her older brothers. Taylor has a devastating pediatric cancer called Neuroblastoma. She is stage 4-High Risk. She has been incredibly strong in her fight against this disease, enduring 7 rounds of chemo before age two. She is now being treated at Sloan Kettering in NYC because the local doctors have done all they can with their resources.

In New York, there is a new treatment against the disease that could be manufactured, but the funding is currently unavailable. The survival rate for high-risk neuroblastoma is a grim 30% with a 50% relapse rate. This new treatment gives much hope to the families being treated there, but they needed to come up with a way to fund it. Taylor’s dad, along with other dads have taken it upon themselves to raise the funds. On Monday, September 10th they began the long trek across our country on their bicycles in a campaign they are calling “The Loneliest Road.” They will travel mostly along US Rte. 50, against the elements, and fatigue. It is an echo of what their children are going through each and every day. They hope to raise much needed awareness for this devastating and often “silent” cancer, as well as raise the funds for the new treatment.

Thanks for your time, I appreciate any help you can provided.

Sincerely,
Michael Waisley
Ashburn, VA
